Kids Matter

Naracoorte South Primary School is part of the KidsMatter network for Primary schools. This initiative aims to promote and develop social and emotional skills and mental health.  The Kidsmatter programme has proven to make a positive difference to the lives of Australian children.

 The Action Team is responsible for the induction and implementation of the KidsMatter programme at Naracoorte South Primary School.  The members of this team are:

Kirsty Lush – Principal

Kym Shepherd – Deputy Principal

Cathie Biggins – School Counsellor

Kara Lang – Junior Primary Teacher representative

Jacquilyn Bradley – Primary Teacher representative

Deb Henschke – School Services Officer representative

Mandy Thring – Parent representative

The KidsMatter programme consists of the following:

Component 1 - Positive School Community                                             (2014)

Component 2 - Social and Emotional Learning                         (Term 1, 2015)

Component 3 - Working with Parents and Carers                     (Term 3, 2015)

Component 4 - Helping Children with Mental Health Difficulties

KidsMatter Community Wellbeing Launch

In March this year we launched the initiative at our inaugural Community Wellbeing Event.  During the afternoon all students participated in Wellbeing activities such as Meditation, Yoga, Kickboxing, Bootcamp, Aromatherapy, Cooking and Dance Fitness.  After School we hosted an Expo-style event which featured local services and groups which are available to the community.  A variety of activities were available  for Children, such as a hands-on with emergency vehicles, facepainting, henna tattoos, stress balls, an insight into Scouts and Girl Guides.  Also a range of information was available to adults, as well as the chance to chat informally with various service providers.  An excellent taste of cultural food was available as well as a sausage sizzle.  A short concert and the cutting of the KidsMatter cake ended off the evening.
